Annual number of visitors using council operated centres at outdoor recreation sites - this excludes walkers who use public footpaths
The Country Parks and Countryside Heritage Sites remain popular and are an important asset for local people and visitors. Collection of accurate visitor data has always been difficult, relying on sample counts. Following a review, a number of electronic counters have been installed at sites, which should provide more accurate figures and better coverage of our sites. The figures being gathered now are much more accurate and will provide a better baseline going forward.
The Outdoor recreational figures have seen a reduction at Q4 as travel under the lockdown was restricted. However, the annual figures have been positive as outdoor exercise and activities became a key part of daily lives over the last year. The Outdoor rec recorded a total of 611,515 visitors during 2019/20 but this increased to 996,228 during 2020/21, this is a significant 63% increase.
