The homelessness strategy for Shropshire will establish the action plan for addressing the needs of the homeless and those at risk of homelessness
Housing authorities are required to conduct a homelessness review and develop a strategy based on the results of that review. Shropshire Council is currently working towards the adoption of its new strategy.
The development of this strategy is behind schedule. In agreement with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government the deadline for production was extended to account for the diversion of staff resources to respond to emergencies caused first by the flooding and then by the pandemic. As at the end of quarter 3 the aim was to have the draft ready for consultation by the end of 2020. Subsequently another national lockdown has resulted in staff needing to address immediate needs. The draft strategy is now developed and requires statistical updates to reflect changes caused by the pandemic. Subject to any further emergencies the strategy should now be completed during Q4.
