% of referrals that are repeat referrals within 12 months of a previous referral
Re-referrals can be costly to local authorities, but more importantly, they can be stressful and harmful to the children themselves, as well as to their parents or guardians. Potentially, multiple referrals can be detrimental to children’s development, as they may imply prolonged periods of unmet needs and recurrent episodes of abuse, neglect and maltreatment.
The % of re-referrals in Shropshire shows that at Q1there is a continuation of a trend seen in Q4 in which re-referrals appear to be increasing, we are now reported to be higher than our statistical neighbours but remain lower than the National Average. The numbers reflect just below a quarter of all referrals received. An audit is planned between Children’s Social Care and Early Help to look at these re-referrals to determine any patterns or lessons learnt to inform ongoing practice.
