Annual number of visitors using council operated centres at outdoor recreation sites - this excludes walkers who use public footpaths
The Country Parks and Countryside Heritage Sites remain popular and are an important asset for local people and visitors. Collection of accurate visitor data has always been difficult, relying on sample counts. Following a review, a number of electronic counters have been installed at sites, which should provide more accurate figures and better coverage of our sites. The figures being gathered now are much more accurate and will provide a better baseline going forward.
The 2019/20 annual visitor figures to the end of September 2019 was 708,625, which is greatly reduced on previous reporting. This reduction follows the closure of Severn Valley Country Park during peak visitor periods. The works programme has resulted in an improved visitor centre and cafe, this should make the site more attractive to visitors and will ultimately increase visitor enjoyment and numbers.
